DAY 1   Montreal – Lisbon 

Departure from Pierre Elliott Trudeau airport to Lisbon. Meals served on board (with flight included package option).

 

DAY 2  Arrival Lisbon

Arrival in Lisbon (with option package). Welcome by our representative at destination, transfer to your hotel. Free evening.

DAY 3  Lisbon | Évora

Leaving Lisbon, we cross the bridge over the river Tejo and by a beautiful and bucolic landscape of olive, cork, oak trees and vineyards we arrive to Évora – UNESCO World Heritage city, mosaic of culture, history and traditions. We’ll travel back in time as we walk along the narrow streets of this whitewashed town and visit some of the iconic sites: the Roman Temple, the Romanesque-gothic Cathedral, Saint Francis Church and the University. We’ll uncover the real story behind a fascinating “Bones Chapel“. At the market, we will see the richness of produce used to prepare the most elaborated gastronomical dishes of Portugal. Handicrafts lovers will admire the diversity and authenticity of local cork, ceramic and copper products. Time to enjoy your lunch. In the afternoon, free time for more discoveries and shopping in the city of Evora.

DAY 4  Évora | Beja | Silves | Lagos

Part of the morning at leisure in Évora, and then driving southward passing Beja were the highest tower of Portuguese Medieval castles dominates the town and the region. Crossing small mountains we enter the Algarve. By the fields of orange trees we arrive to Silves, the renowned town dominated by its red sandstone castle dating back mainly to Moorish times and by the memory of is former cork industry. Continue to the golden sands of the Algarve passing by Praia da Rocha to Lagos.

DAY 5  Lagos | Ponta da Piedade | Sagres | Cabo de São Vicente

The Algarve has the call of the sea that led to the discovery of the New World. Stop in Ponta da Piedade and admire the magnificent vistas over the Atlantic Ocean and oddly–shaped, imagination inspiring cliffs. Continue to the port of Sagres for a visit of fortress, that once harboured the mythical “navigation school” founded by Prince Henry the Navigator, and learn how Henry, also the Grand Master, taught his students the skills, that helped during the first days of Atlantic exploration and the discovery of the African coast. Proceed along the cliffs to Cabo São Vincente, the most south-western point of Europe. Return to the cosmopolitan city of Lagos with impressive  marina view and taste the delicious Algarve dishes - fish and shellfish cooked in a copper pan, cataplana, for example. To finish your meal on the sweet note, don't skip the fine local dessert - the famous marzipans, almond and fig cakes. Return to the hotel and spend the afternoon at leisure strolling on the beach, and don't resist a temptation to soak your feet in the warm sea.

DAY 6 Lagos | Setúbal | Serra da Arrábida | Lisbon

Take a last look at the water while traveling along the coast and say farewell to the Algarve. The return trip to Lisbon will take you by the city of Setubal - a major port and industrial centre on the north bank of the Sado estuary. On the scenic route over the Arrábida Mountain Range, an area preserved as a Natural Park, savour unique vegetation at the gates of Lisbon and the sweeping views of the Tróia Peninsula. Crossing the bridge over the Tejo River, arrive to Lisbon.

DAY 7 Lisbon - Montreal or extension of your holiday

Breakfast at the hotel. Transfer to Lisbon airport for your return flight to Canada. Or extend your vacation in Portugal on Algarve seacoast.
